If I were to become a snake, living in the ground, the Word [Shabad]
would still dwell in my mind, and my fears would go away.
As a cow shows love to her strayed calf on meeting it.
The rain-bird loves the rainwater, falling in torrents;
The sheldrake loves the sun shining on her face.
The calf loves to suck [its mother's] milk with mouth.
The mind has become attached to the pleasures of houses, palaces, horses
and other enjoyments.
If we feed a serpent upon much milk, on investigation, only poison shall
come out of it.
By tasting the Word [Shabad] Nectar, peacock of my mind has begun to
chirp.
He is pleased at the sight of his elephants and horses and his armies
assembled, his servants and his soldiers.
In so many incarnations, you were a worm and a moth; in so many
incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish, and a deer. In so many
incarnations, you were a bird and a snake. In so many incarnations, you
were yoked as an ox and a horse.
